My weekly personal note:
(Skip down to the weekly journal jots if you prefer.)
Good afternoon,
It’s been stinky around here lately. It seriously has been! Every year a mouse ends up dying somewhere on our back porch, and I never seem to find the dreadful source until it’s spring-cleaning time out there.
The stench usually lasts a couple of weeks and then slowly dissipates. My hubby found some strongly scented spray that I had tucked away in a drawer and set it on the back porch to spray every time we came in or went out.
It was sort of comical in a sense. We learned to giggle about the terrible smell, then press the scented spray can as we went through….hoping we’d get no visitors anytime soon. Ha!
I also opened the back door when possible to air things out.
We were enduring…
And then came Monday.
I went out to look into the deep freezer for some meat that a friend had given me. I had stashed it in the freezer for a “rainy day” so to speak.
But I couldn’t find it anywhere.
The wheels in my mind began to spin. An UH-OH moment started shrieking through my head.
I looked down around the freezer area where some clutter had collected nearby…. and there sat my bag of anticipated meat…except now it was in horrid condition. YUCK!
Oh, my heart felt so sad and guilty for the waste. I remembered pulling it out for a moment, sitting it down to reach in for another item — and then I forgot to put it back into the freezer.
After rushing the bundle of rancid stuff out the door, my back porch almost immediately smelled pleasingly better. Ah!
Sometimes our own attitude in life stinks just like that rotten meat. Everything appears to be in order on the outside, but everyone else can smell that there’s something quite off.
And things won’t improve until you purge what’s causing the stench.
David was quite open about his inadequacies and iniquities in Psalms. He said, “My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.” Psalms 38:5 (KJV)
Today, may I encourage you to take a closer peek at what might be causing a stench in your life?
There is not one of us who does not have some area in our life in which we need to clean up a bit…
You are not alone in your struggles. I have my own personal battles, but I hope that we can encourage each other, in the Lord, to keep plugging along and building a closer relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Our goal is to become more Christ-like day-by-day and year-by-year.
“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.” Ephesians 5:2
Keep walking in faith,

QUESTION: What may be causing bitterness in your life? It’s better to forgive the wrongdoings of the past than to allow them to remain, take root, and poison the rest of your life.
